80 Runners Support East Jelajah 2023 To Disburse Clean Water In NTT

The SOE - More than 80 ultra marathon runners traveled 108 kilometers with the SoE-Kupang route in the East Java Ultra Marathon charity activity, 27-28 October yesterday.

They ran to raise funds to realize the procurement of clean water in three villages in South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Access to clean water is a problem in three villages in South Central Timor Regency, NTT. This has an impact on women and girls.

In order to meet the needs of clean water for their families, they must go very far. This is exacerbated by the prolonged drought in NTT which has led to a water crisis.

"The burden carried by women and girls has resulted in the energy and time that should have been used to work and study and run out to collect water," said Linda Sukandar, Director of Resources and Mobilization Plan Indonesia.

"The difficulty of accessing clean water also has a negative impact on public health and the growth and development process of children, even has the potential to cause stunting. Considering stunting in NTT is the highest in Indonesia," he continued.

This charity activity managed to raise funds of one billion rupiah to help three villages in TTS Regency. Plan Indonesia also thanked the runners who had helped fundraising.

This year's East Coast Series started on October 26, 2023, where runners visited Naileu Village, one of the beneficiary villages. In this activity, runners saw firsthand the condition of one of the villages they helped, while interacting with villagers.

On October 27, the ultra marathon started with the regent's office. The East Explorer traveled for 20 hours and finished at the NTT Governor's office in Kupang City.
