JAKARTA – Indonesia will meet Taiwan in the semifinals of the 2023 World Junior Mixed Team Championship where they will compete for the Suhandinata Cup.

Alwi Farhan and friends reached the last four after winning 3-1 over France in the quarter-finals at The Podium, Washington, United States, Friday, September 29 early morning Indonesian time.

Indonesia lost by one point in the first match to field mixed doubles, Adrian Pratama/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu. This pair lost against Alex Lanier/Elsa Jacob.

"We predicted that France would lose one or two points to us and it turns out we had to lose points from the mixed doubles," said Indonesian Team Manager Armand Darmadji, quoted on the PB Djarum website.

The three Indonesian representatives who took part after the mixed doubles were Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari, Alwi Farhan, and Anisanaya Kamila/Az Zahra Ditya Ramadhani. The three of them together won straight games over their opponents.

Mutiara Ayu beat Malya Hoareau to equalize, then Alwi stopped Lanier to put Indonesia up 2-1. Anisanaya/AZ Zahra then beat Elsa Jacob/Camille Pognante to seal the win.

"This is good teamwork. Even though they were left behind in the first match, the other three representatives were able to give victory to Indonesia," said Armand.

Indonesia will next play the semifinals against Taiwan on Saturday, September 30 at 07.00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). Taipei reached the last four after a dramatic 3-2 win over Thailand.

The other semifinalists brought together China and Malaysia. In the quarter-finals, China won 3-1 against Japan, while Malaysia won 3-0 against India.
