JAKARTA - The 2023 MotoGP format has changed again. The new rules set will take effect when the British GP starts in August.
Quoted from the official MotoGP website on Tuesday, July 18, one day earlier or Monday 17 July the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) had set changes. This includes a free practice format that is set to be more concise.
If in the previous rules the free practice sessions (FP) 1 and 2 were held on the same day, the new rules state that the two agendas will be held on different days.
Regarding the regulation, Dorna Sport as the racing operator has determined that Friday's race will start with an FP1 session. For 45 minutes the agenda will be held in the morning.
After the FP1 in the morning, drivers will be given 60 minutes of training time. This session is then used as a benchmark for racers to automatically qualify for Q2 or must first pass Q1.

If in the previous regulation FP2 was also held on Friday afternoon, now the agenda has shifted to Saturday morning. In the new format FP2 only lasted 30 minutes.
Then the follow-up session after FP2 is Qualification I (Q1) and Qualification 2 (Q2) which each lasts for 15 minutes.
After the qualifying round is complete, the racers will compete in the sprint race session which determines the pole position.
The format for Sunday's race will still take place as before without any change. Sunday's agenda will start with a 10-minute warm-up and proceed to the race or main race session.
MotoGP 2023 has become the most radical season in format changes. At the beginning of this season Dorna has even imposed a Sprint Race as a new format.
