Bob Arum Surprised Manny Pacquiao Dare To Challenge Conor Benn

JAKARTA - Manny Pacquiao's plan to get into the ring against British boxer Conor Benn made famous boxing promoter Bob Arum surprised.

Pacquiao, a former world champion in eight divisions, is currently said to have a strong desire to return to the boxing ring. Conor Benn is also one of his favorite names as his potential opponent.

"The fight against Benn is a bit sad because he (Pacquiao) is 44 years old, but I know he's always in good shape," Arum told Little Giant Boxing.

Several reports say Pacquiao is most likely against the welterweight boxer this year. The information comes amid news confirming Benn was positive for drug use.

Benn tested positive for using last year's climate-forbidden drug in two separate tests. The scandal dominated the British boxing news cycle over the past seven months.

"I just wish him all the best, but you know, it's sad at the age of 44 that he feels the need to pursue a boxing career," Arum said.

Benn, who does not have a license to fight in his home country, is expected to return to the ring on June 3 in Abu Dhabi. Apart from Pacquiao, Kell Brook and arch-enemy Chris Eubank Jr., Benn is also on the list against him.

Meanwhile, Sean Gibbons, Pacquiao's advisor, confirmed that his team is now ready and is just waiting for a decision from Benn's team led by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom.

Pacquiao retired after losing points to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021. He then focused on his political career in his home country of the Philippines and was a senator.

However, after failing to run for president, Pacquiao entered the ring again last December in an exhibition match. At that time he fought South Korean mixed martial artist DK Yoo.
