Spain Masters 2023 Results: Fajar/Rian And Gregoria To Quarter Finals

JAKARTA The world number one men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto beat Andreas Sondergaard/Jesper Toft to reach the quarter-finals of the Spain Masters 2023.

Fajar/Rian passed the round of 16 easily through the victory of two straight games 21-13 and 22-20 over the Danish representative at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Gallur, Spain, Thursday, March 30 evening WIB.

This victory led Fajar/Rian to face representatives of Chinese Taipei Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee in the next round later. The pair qualified after defeating other Indonesian representatives, namely Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.

"The opponent of the twins from Chinese Taipei is good, yes, they watched when they played at the Swiss Open against the Indian pair. So we are more vigilant because they are climbing, especially here they also beat Bagas/Fikri," said Fajar after the match.

Apart from Fajar/Rian, several other Indonesian representatives have also confirmed themselves to qualify for the last eight. One of them is the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

Gregoria, who is the fifth seed in the Super 300 BWF event, has to fight three games to beat Kim Ga Eun of South Korea. He will then be challenged by Danish representatives Line Christophersen.

In addition to the two representatives above, the other eight tickets were also obtained three mixed doubles Amri Syahnawi/ Winny Oktavina Kandow, Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti, and Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.

Following the representatives above are women's doubles Meilysa Trias Puspita Sari/Rachel Alllessya Rose. The pair also won easily two straight games against Chinese Taipei representative Chang Ching Hui/Yang Ching Tun.

Meanwhile, apart from Bagas/Fikri, four other Indonesian representatives also had to bury their dreams. Each of the women's singles, mixed doubles, men's singles, and women's doubles.

Other representatives whose trips had to stop were Putri Kusuma Wardani, Adnan Maulana/Nita Violina Marwah, Christian Adinata, and Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi.
