Kia Target For 2025, Build Factory To Production 150,000 Vehicle Units

JAKARTA - Kia, a car manufacturer from South Korea, is currently working on a plant that will produce around 150,000 electric commercial vehicles per year. This is part of their grand plan to become one of the three largest electric vehicle brands in the world by 2030.

They hope the factory can be established and operated by 2025 by investing 775 million US dollars or around Rp. 11.5 trillion. For the project, they purchased 99,000 hectares of land.

Although there has been no official announcement regarding the first vehicle to be produced at the factory, quoted from Carscoops, Tuesday, April 11, the car is called SW. Kia plans to introduce a van in 2025 that will use the eS platform. This vehicle is expected to be useful for shipping companies, multi-cursion transportation, robotaxis, and others.

Kia also hopes to build up to 150,000 units at the plant in the first year of production and expand its production depending on demand. To facilitate the production of several vehicles for various purposes, Kia will use cutting-edge technology, such as cellular organization methods to speed up work.

Kia CEO and President Ho Sung Song revealed that they will rely on automated workstations to take over challenging tough tasks. They will use low-carbon facilities by implementing environmentally friendly construction methods during the vehicle painting process.

"Our focus is to increase competitiveness for the entire electric vehicle ecosystem, including research, development, production, and infrastructure, as well as to lead in encouraging change and innovation in the new global automotive industry," said Ho Sung Song.

This project is part of a bigger effort for Kia to become the third largest electric vehicle producer in the world in 2023. Kia together with Hyundai Motors and Hyundai Mobis will also invest 18.1 billion US dollars or around IDR 269.3 trillion.
