JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan sent a request for regional quarantine aimed at preventing the spread of the corona virus or COVID-19 in his area. The letter numbered 143 dated 28 March 2020 and was received by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD on Sunday, 29 March.

The reason Anies asked for a regional quarantine permit was because every day, Jakarta experienced a surge in positive corona virus patients. As of today, there have been 720 positive cases of COVID-19 in DKI.

Deputy Chairman of the DKI DPRD from the PAN Faction Zita Anjani asked the DKI Provincial Government to ensure the food stock during the regional quarantine until the recovery time after the regional quarantine.

"That is very important for the survival of the community. Do not let us limit their space but not be equipped with food and clothing, it is tantamount to slowly being killed by its citizens, a danger," said Zita, contacted, Jakarta, Monday, March 30.

Zita also asked Anies to ensure the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical personnel handling COVID-19 cases. Because, they are the front troops when facing the virus originating from China.

Likewise, Chairman of the PKS DPRD DKI Faction Mohammad Arifin asked the DKI Provincial Government to ensure the supply of logistics in markets before implementing regional quarantine. Do not let the area quarantine policy make people miserable because there are no basic commodities on the market.

"It must be ensured that within the next 1-2 months the food stock is safe in Jakarta. So, bring the goods closer to the residents, so that people do not have to travel far outside to get basic commodities," he said.

PDIP Faction DPRD member Gilbert Simanjuntak asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to pay attention to Jakarta residents who work as day laborers, mobile traders, street vendors, and people with disabilities. He said, their basic needs must be considered by the DKI Provincial Government.

"They deserve to be assisted with direct assistance or market operations through RT. Food for them is something urgent to be helped," said Gilbert.

Members of the DKI DPRD from the Gerindra Syarif faction said that apart from basic materials, the DKI Provincial Government must also pay attention to other needs, such as the availability of energy as daily necessities for residents, such as electricity, water, and telecommunications networks during the regional quarantine period.
