MikTA And Jokowi Agree To Open Humanitarian Corridor For Palestine

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, chaired a meeting of the MIKTA parliament (Mexico, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia) with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Jokowi and the leadership of parliament 5 middle power countries discussed the issue of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The meeting of Puan with 4 other MIKTA parliamentary leaders was welcomed by Jokowi at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on the agenda of Good Call. The meeting was held before the opening of the 9th MiKTA Speakers' Consultation where the DPR acted as the host. MiKTA Speaker's Consultation itself is a consulting forum for the chairman of the parliament for MIKTA members.

In the Call, Puan was present with South Korea's National Assembly Chair Kim-Jin Pyo, Turkey's Grand National Assembly Chair Numan Kurtulmu total, Australian Senate Deputy Speaker Andrew McLachlan, and for Mexican parliamentary leaders represented by Parliamentary Secretary Fuesanta Gugantung Esquivel.

Puan said that the MIKTA state parliament leader and President Jokowi agreed to continue to support Palestinian independence. This is a joint commitment that will be brought to every international meeting.

"We discussed many things, especially regarding the peace in Gaza," said Puan during a press conference at the MiKTA Speaker's Consultation, Kempinski Hotel, Central Jakarta, Monday, November 20.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also revealed that the MIKTA state Parliament and President Jokowi agreed to encourage the opening of humanitarian aid routes for the Palestinian people. Puan said the Indonesian government and the MIKTA parliament were also in line with calling for a ceasefire by Israel.

"We, through the MIKTA parliament, are the same as what the President has shown that Indonesia remains committed and consistently supports the peace in Palestine," said the first woman to serve as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

"In this MIKTA session, we encourage humanitarian corridors to be opened and continue to fight for independence for Palestine," continued Puan.

According to him, there are a number of other things that Jokowi also discussed with the MP of MIKTA. One of them, said Puan, was related to the issue of climate change which was in the spotlight of the international community.

Earlier also talked about climate change and also related to economic matters that we are currently in in a situation that is not good enough, including in other countries," explained Bung Karno's grandson.

"Therefore, we agree that in this MIKTA forum, it will produce a joint statement agreement, especially regarding the global economic situation, which can run well and whatever happens, this forum can support and synergize with the Government of the MIKTA country," continued Puan.
