RI-Turkey Agree To Support The Struggle For Palestine's Independence

JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has entered into a cooperation agreement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in an effort to support the Palestinian struggle for independence.

The Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta, Sunday, informed that the agreement was held by Indonesia and Turkey in a bilateral meeting between President Jokowi and President Erdogan on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Summit of Organizations for Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

"As well as reminding the world to solve the root of the problem, namely the independence of Palestine based on two state solutions," said President Jokowi at the King Abdulaziz International Convention Center (KAICC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Saturday (11/11).

The meeting of the two heads of state was agreed to continue working together to resolve problems in Gaza, supporting the Palestinian people's struggle, including in realizing Palestinian independence.

In addition, President Jokowi stressed that the OIC must unite and be at the forefront of urging a ceasefire and voicing the start of the humanitarian break.

"And ensure access to safe humanitarian aid, predictable, sustainable, and reach all citizens," he said as quoted by Antara.

Furthermore, President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia will use all channels to voice justice and humanity for the Palestinian people, including the UN General Assembly, Human Rights Council, and the International Crime Court.

The two leaders also said that Turkey and Indonesia were active in continuing to try to contribute to problem solving in Gaza.

In addition, Jokowi and Erdogan also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and agreed to intensify Indonesia-Turkey Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IT-CEPA) negotiations so that they can be completed in 2024.

Also accompanying President Jokowi in the meeting was Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi.
