Mahfud MD Leads Joint Prayer For Palestine In Sleman

YOGYAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD leads prayers for Palestinians at the Islamic Boarding School Complex (Ponpes) Minggal, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Saturday night 4 November.

The prayer was led by Mahfud before opening the 7th Harlah of the Yogyakarta Anti-Criminality Team Unit (STAK) at the KH Muwafiq or Gus Muwafiq's boarding school complex.

"Please brothers and sisters of us Muslims who are fighting in Palestine. O Allah destroy the evil forces of the Jews and Israelis until they realize to build peace on this earth," Mahfud was quoted as saying by ANTARA, Sunday, November 5.

Mahfud said that in the opening of the 1945 Constitution, there is one narrative that one of the goals of the Indonesian State to be built is to build world peace, as well as security for every soul.

"Therefore, tonight I came here on this occasion wearing solidarity clothes for Palestinians who are now being slaughtered in Gaza," said Mahfud, wearing a white shirt combined with a Palestinian flag scarf.

Mahfud said the conflict between Hamas and Israel, which erupted from 7 October to 3 November 2023, had killed about 10 thousand people, with 3,700 of them children.

"If divided per day, then divided per hour every 10 minutes, a small child dies one because of the brutality of the attack from Israel," he said at the event which was also attended by the ulama and students.

In accordance with the principles of the State of Indonesia which adheres to world peace, Mahfud continued, the Indonesian government and the Indonesian people strongly condemn Israel's brutal actions.

"The Indonesian government and the Indonesian people, the Indonesian people and the Indonesian government can be pushed around, which has the same attitude as strongly condemning the acts of violence and indiscriminate massacres that occurred in Gaza due to brutal attacks from Israel," he said.

Menurut Mahfud, sikap Indonesia terhadap Israel sudah dinyatakan sejak awal oleh Presiden Soekarno ketika Indonesia baru berdiri yang kemudian ditegaskan kembali pada Konferensi Asia Afrika Tahun 1955.

"Bung Karno stated that Indonesia will never have contact with Israel until the Palestinians are independent. This attitude has been expressed by the Indonesian government and has been consistent until now," said Mahfud.
