The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that at least four villages were affected by the fire at the Jalupang Final Disposal Site (TPA), Karawang, West Java (West Java).

"At least four villages, namely Wancimekar, North Pangulah, Pucung, and Pangulah Baru Village, were affected by the smoke fog caused by the fire," said Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Karawang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ferry in his statement, Monday, October 30, confiscated by Antara.

The fire that hit the waste disposal site was first discovered on Saturday, October 28 at 11.00 WIB. The total area of burned waste is recorded at 10 hectares.

Ferry said the joint team was still trying to extinguish the fire.

"Under the surface the fire is still burning, while the fire team and the BPBD Task Force are still trying to extinguish the fire," he said.

Ferry added that currently the BPBD team has also established a tent unit and supplied a number of logistics needed by firefighters at the location.

"So far, there are two units of heavy equipment at the location from the Environment Agency. The officers' obstacles are due to thick smoke and the lack of heavy equipment and floating pump machines to supply water that is still lacking," he explained.

However, not only extinguishing the fire, Ferry said the local BPBD had also anticipated the impact of the smoke fog caused by the fire by distributing masks to officers in the field and residents around the affected locations.

"We also report that BPBD has distributed masks to locations and local residents who are affected by smoke pollution," he said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. The joint team is still trying to investigate the exact cause of the fire that hit the largest TPA in Karawang.
