DENPASAR - Head of the Bali Health Service (Dinkes) I Nyoman Gede Anom responded to the discovery of pieces of leg suspected of amputating medical waste in Buleleng by conveying the real ban.

"That (the discovery of a piece of leg) we are still investigating. What is clear is that medical waste should not be disposed of carelessly, especially on the beach. That's why," said Anom, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 25.

Previously, pieces of a human leg wrapped in bandages and a crackle bag were found at Pengebangan Beach, Buleleng, on October 20, 2023.

After being investigated by the police, it was confirmed that the organs belonged to an amputation operation patient at the Buleleng Hospital.

This has also been confirmed by the hospital and an organ handover has been carried out to the patient's family. However, generally, the patient's family brings home organs for religious ceremonies such as cremation.

The head of the Bali Health Office is still asking his team to investigate the truth of the case, while confirming the ban on disposing of medical waste carelessly.

"It's not allowed if there are rules for body parts. If they are found outside the hospital, it's wrong," he said.

"It's all for medical waste, we have a process. Our waste treatment process in Bali has collaborated with Surabaya. It will not come out, whatever medical waste has been processed by hospitals and third parties. If the hospital does not have waste treatment, it has collaborated with third parties," he continued.

Medical waste in the form of pieces of the body brought home by the family, he said, there are also rules, namely for a gibbon ceremony or cremation so that the final result is in the form of ashes, not pieces of a intact body.

"We don't know if his family wants to do it, a ceremony or something like that in Bali. What is clear is that there are customs for waste, we explain that the waste used for operations, medical waste, must be destroyed, destroyed, through medical waste treatment," said Anom.

Although it has been confirmed that the pieces of leg belonged to the amputation operation patient at the Buleleng Hospital, the Bali Health Office is still coordinating through the team sent to find out the reason for the random disposal of the body.
