BATAM - Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) has uncovered a cross-border crime case of smuggling residual oil by assigning one person
Indian citizen, SJN (37) as a suspect.
"Regarding the smuggling of waste or entering waste oil residue without a permit to the Republic of Indonesia. KLHK investigators have named SJN, who is the captain of the MT BSI ship with the Liberian flag, as an individual suspect," said Director General of Environmental Law Enforcement and Forestry Ratio Ridho Sani in Batam Riau Islands, Antara, Friday, October 13.
The SJN suspect is known to have brought 80 tons of residual oil waste after carrying out activities to clean up the MT BSI ship tank which was carried out in Bangladesh and dumped it in Indonesian territory in May 2023.
"The determination of SJN, the captain of the MT BSI ship as a suspect is because he is responsible for bringing 80 tons of residual oil waste as a result of tank cleaning activities carried out outside the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, namely in Bangladesh into Indonesian territory. This act is a criminal act," he said.

"The suspect SJN is an Indian citizen, the captain of the MT BSI ship is ready for trial, he is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of 15 years and a maximum fine of Rp. 15 billion," he said.
