JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian gave an example of food diversification or various efforts to avoid dependence on one food product, by consuming corn and sweet potatoes other than rice.

"In the last few weeks, the Minister of Home Affairs has also consumed corn and sweet potatoes. So it is important that we don't depend on certain foods," said the daily executive Head of the Information Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs Yudia Ramli to the press in Jakarta, Friday.

According to Yudia, the Minister of Home Affairs' invitation to diversify food is because his superiors want to prevent public dependence on certain commodities during the El Nino phenomenon.

Various efforts to avoid this dependence need to be encouraged so as not to cause the price of a commodity to be higher than other commodities.

Rice does contain carbohydrates, but Indonesia also has many other food commodities that can be a source of carbohydrates.

Therefore, the Minister of Home Affairs conveyed food diversification. That is, don't depend on certain foods.

On the other hand, Yudia explained, the government continues to encourage the control of domestic rice prices. This effort is carried out through various strategies such as Getol holding low-cost food movements or low-cost market operations. In addition, the government also continues to strive to ensure that rice stocks are met by imports or absorb domestic harvests.

In addition to encouraging food diversity, the Ministry of Home Affairs also holds coordination meetings with ministries/agencies related to inflation control, including local governments since August 23, 2022.
