Realizing The Opportunities Are Thin To Become Prabowo's Vice Presidential Candidate, AHY Doesn't Want To Force It

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, realizes that the opportunity is quite small to be elected as a candidate for vice president to accompany Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 presidential election.

Given, the Forward Indonesia Coalition (KIM) which carries Prabowo as a presidential candidate has been quite fat, ranging from the Gerindra Party, Golkar Party, PAN, PBB, Gelora, to the Garuda Party.

On that basis, AHY handed over whatever decision to determine the vice presidential candidate who will become Prabowo's partner to the General Chair of the Gerindra Party.

This was conveyed by AHY after the Democratic Party National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) which officially announced its support for Prabowo as a presidential candidate in 2024.

"We really want to give Pak Prabowo flexibility as a presidential candidate who is jointly promoted to determine his running mate, determine his partner, in the sense that it is he himself who should determine the criteria for vice presidential candidates that he considers important to be able to win the contestation," said AHY at JCC, Central Jakarta, Thursday, September 21.

AHY claims that he does not want to make assumptions about his chances of becoming Prabowo's partner. Instead, he appreciated Prabowo, who still provided space for parties to propose their aspirations, including the matter of vice president.

"So once again I don't want to enter that area. It's too far away. We give the flexibility to Pak Prabowo Subianto and I'm sure he will also respect the aspirations and views of all of us, including the Democratic Party," he explained.

The Democratic Party finally joined the Forward Indonesia Coalition to support Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 presidential election. This decision was taken after the Democrats withdrew cooperation with the party supporting Anies Baswedan who collaborated with Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin as a vice presidential candidate (cawapres).
