Handling Poverty In Solo, Gibran Claims In Line With The UN Program

Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka said that the handling of the poverty problem in Solo City was in line with the mission carried out by the United Nations (UN). "Yesterday there were interesting talks, including poverty alleviation," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 18. He said the conversation was held with the President of the UN Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc) Paula Narvaez on her visit to the United States (US) last week. "Paula is essentially focused on SDGs (the goal of sustainable development/Sustainable Development Goals)," he said. Therefore, at the meeting Gibran also explained the policy of the Surakarta City Government which aims at poverty alleviation, especially slum settlements. According to him, the most severe problem faced by a city, even the country is poverty. Therefore, the topic is also focused by the United Nations. "Yesterday it was the President of Ecosoc who encouraged the achievement of SDGs in all countries. Solo itself is also a commitment. Indonesia, Solo is all committed to achieving SDGs," he said.

On that occasion, he did not deny that there would be a follow-up to his meeting with the UN representative. However, he did not want to discuss the plan. "It's not certain about that. Later when it happened. If it's not certain I don't want to talk," he said.
