BONDOWOSO - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bondowoso Regency, East Java, recorded forest and land fires (karhutla) in the slope area of Mount Ijen reaching around 20 hectares.

The forest and land fires occurred on Tuesday (12/9) to Wednesday (13/9) in Petak 102 B and 103 A areas of Perhutani Pos 2, Ijen District, Bondowoso Regency.

"Yes, it is true that a fire spread north, and about 20 hectares were burned," said Head of the Bondowoso BPBD Emergency Division Yuliono as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 13.

He explained that the vegetation of the burning plant is a type of dried grass and shrubs. The fire began to die out on Wednesday, September 13, at 05.00 WIB.

However, the cause of the forest and land fires on the slopes of Mount Ijen, he said, the Bondowoso BPBD still did not know for sure.

"The possibility of natural factors due to the heat that occurred, then the fire broke out," said Yuliono.

According to him, in the forest and land fires incident there were no casualties, as soon as the endemic event of the forest area on the slopes of Mount Ijen was also reported to be still safe.

Yuliono appealed to people who are active around the slopes of Mount Ijen not to throw cigarette butts carelessly during the dry season because it could trigger a fire.
