The traditional fishermen on the coast of Lebak Regency, Banten, returned to sea after being hit by bad weather which was marked by high waves accompanied by the south wind.
"We hope that fish catch will be abundant with normal weather conditions," said Head of the Bina Muara Sejahtera Fisherman Cooperative Binuangeun, Lebak Wading Regency, in Lebak Regency, quoted from Antara, Sunday, September 10.
Fishermen on the coast of the southern Banten waters or the Indian Ocean have been fishing for the past week and the catch has been abundant.
Most of the fishermen's catch are heur fish and tuna, even auction transactions reach hundreds of millions of rupiah from the previous tens of millions per day.
"We believe that the abundance of fish catching is ensured that the economic income of fishermen will improve and it is proven that many have kept money to cooperatives," he explained.
According to him, so far, the activities of fishermen at 11 fish auction sites (TPI) in Lebak Regency have been stretched after they were unemployed due to bad weather.
They are traditional fishermen who go to sea starting at 04.00 WIB and return to TPI at around 10.00 WIB until 14.00 WIB. Now the auction transaction at the Binuangeun Fish Landing Base (PPI) Muara Village, Wanasalam District, Lebak Regency is busy, so it can boost the economic income of coastal communities.
"We ask traditional fishermen to leave money for the future of their families," said Wading.
Aming (55), a fisherman from TPI Tanjung Panto, Lebak Regency, admitted that he had been with other fishermen since a week back at sea because the weather in southern Banten waters was relatively normal.
Fish capture can produce 400 kilograms with an average auction transaction price of Rp. 20,000/kilogram, bringing the total money to Rp. 6 million per day from previously not going to sea due to bad weather.
"I got Rp 6 million and after deducting the cost of fuel, food, cigarettes, and deposits to the boat owner, I was able to lower the net money to the house of Rp 1.5 million," said Aming.
Likewise, TPI Bayah fishermen from Lebak Regency, Ujang (50) said that the last week of fishing using a ncang boat and equipped with rawe or fishing gear, could produce up to 350 kilograms of catch.
Most of them are now entering heur and tuna so that the fishermen's economic income is quite good.
In fact, he was caught on Sunday (9/9) morning carrying Rp 1.2 million after deducting levies and fuel oil, after going to sea.
Luckily, the current fish catch is abundant, because it is certain that the southern season has arrived.
Usually, he said, the southern season fish from Africa migrate to breed in the waters of the Indian Ocean.
"We hope that the weather will be normal so that fishermen's catch is abundant, so that the economy of coastal communities will increase," he said.
