Governor Edy: Maltang Mandailing Natal Airport Progress Reaches 50 Percent

The Governor of North Sumatra (Gubsu) Edy Rahmayadi said the progress of the construction of Malintang Airport in Mandailing Natal (Madina) Regency had reached 50 percent.

"In total, it has reached 50 percent, the runway has been paved, but it has not been completed, the terminal is still in process, other facilities will be pursued," said Edy Rahmayadi, in Madina as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 30.

Governor Edy explained that the first phase of this airport was completed at the end of December 2023. Then it was continued with the second and third stages to complete the entire facility.

"The target is if the contractor says it will finish in December, the first stage, so it can be operational, but of course the facilities are not complete," he added.

The former Pangdam I Bukit Barisan explained that this Malintang Airport will help people's mobility, especially in Southern Tapanuli (Tabagsel).

"This facilitates the mobilization of our people, especially from here a little further to the airport, closest to FL. Tobing or Silangit," said Edy.

On the other hand, the Deputy Chairperson of the North Sumatra DPRD proposed that the airport, which is located in Bukit Malintang District, be named the Great General of the TNI, Dr. Abdul Haris Nasution, who is a national hero born in the area.

"The late General AH Nasution is a national hero for Mandailing Natal's native son. During his lifetime he fought for the nation and state, so it was very appropriate for his name to be proposed as the name of the airport in Madina as a form of appreciation and pride," said Harun Mustafa.

Harun explained that the heirs of the extended family, General AH Nasution, fully supported the proposal and had written a letter of approval.

"The North Sumatran DPRD will officially send a letter to the Madina Regency Government proposing that the airport in Madina be named General Abdul Haris Nasution Airport," said Harun.
