YOGYAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) will hold the Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF) on 7-9 September 2023. This international-scale forum will be staged at the Park Hyatt, Jakarta. So, what is the Indonesia Sustainability Forum?

What is the Indonesia Sustainability Forum?

Quoted from its official website, the Indonesia Sustainability Forum is an international conference that provides an avenue to discuss breakthroughs in achieving sustainable growth, and to chart collaboration and partnerships in accelerating the transition towards a green economy.

This forum brings together around 700 policymakers, experts, or specialists, as well as investors from all over the world. ISF became the side event of the 43rd ASEAN Summit chaired by RI.

Deputy for Transportation and Infrastructure of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Rachmat Kaimuddin said the ISF event was a form of Indonesia's contribution to the world to answer the challenges faced by developing and developed countries in implementing sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

In addition, ISF is also a momentum for Indonesia to push for global decarbonization and spur global sustainability practices.

"We must be able to accelerate the transition of emissions-based growth towards sustainable growth that benefits humans and the environment, in a definite and careful manner," said Rahmat, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

Meanwhile, Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) and Chair of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Arsjad Rasjid said that the two businesses have a crucial role to play in creating a sustainable business ecosystem in a green economy transition.

"We are actively encouraging initiatives such as the Net Zero Hub and the Carbon Center of Excellence, including mobilizing green investment through cross-sectoral collaboration both in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia," said Arsjad.

"Through this initiative, it is hoped that the industrial and business sectors in Indonesia and ASEAN can unite to achieve sustainable development that is inclusive and conducive," he continued.

Arsjad said ISF is part of the ASEAN-BAC Indonesia Summit 2023 which will be held on 1-8 September 2023.

A number of world leaders from friendly countries are planning to attend Indonesia's first official international-scale event that highlights the issue of sustainability, including:

• Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr
• Executive Director, Public Policy Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) Alice Carr
• Vice President of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) Kitty Bu
• Founder of the Climate Policy Initiative Thomas Heller
• Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific CEO Akihiro Ondo

Apart from being attended by international figures, the Indonesia Sustainability Forum will also provide a stage for Indonesian business actors and academics to express their opinions and aspirations in facing the challenges of achieving sustainable growth that is more in line with environmental protection.

The Indonesia Sustainability Forum carries the big theme of Pursuing Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.

This forum cooperates with several global institutions as Knowledge Partners, including the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, McKinsey, and global business players such as AstraZeneca.

The Knowledge Partners will lead thematic sessions, by presenting and facilitating constructive dialogues that are committed to presenting solutions to encourage decarbonization efforts, green economy transitions, and conservation of environmental ecosystems and biodiversity.
