West Papua Police Arrest Foreign Ship From Hong Kong

The Directorate of Water and Air Police (Ditpolairud) of the West Papua Police (PB) arrested a foreign ship from Hong Kong, Min Ning De Huo, number 0679. The arrest of the Hong Kong foreign ship was right at the pier of Tampa Garam Beach tourist attraction, Sorong City, Southwest Papua.

Kasi Penyidikan Subdit Gakkum, Ditpolairud Polda Papua Barat AKP Ade Andini menyebutkan alasan penangkapan kapal karena tidak memiliki dokumen lengkap saat berlayar. Ade menambahkan kakoda kapal asing itu berinisial JM dan saat dimintai dokumen pelayar tidak bisa menunjukkan.

"When asked for documents, the person concerned could not show it," said Head of Investigation Sub-Directorate of Gakkum, Ditpolairud Polda West Papua AKP Ade Andini as quoted from Antara, August 12.

Ade added that JM had violated shipping regulations, in the form of the shipping crime as referred to in Article 323 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 219 paragraph (1) and or Article 302 paragraph (1) and 117 paragraph (2) of Law Number 17 of 2008 concerning Shipping.

In the law, it is stated that the captain who sailed without having a Sailing Approval Letter (SPB) issued by the harbormaster, as referred to in Article 219 paragraph (1) will be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of Rp600 million.

"Nakhoda JM has learned that the ship is not seaworthy as referred to in Article 117 paragraph (2), so it is sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of three years or a maximum fine of Rp. 400 million. Then the ship measuring 248 GT with blue and red paints is then secured as evidence," said AKP Ade Andini.

In addition, there are three units of red green listless speed boats, four logoboats made of red blue fiber, a 60 PK Yamaha stamp engine and a Suzuki brand of three units each, five units of boat engines bearing Mandarin, and three units of wind compressor machines.

"Based on the results of the investigation by the West Papua Police, the captain admitted that he deliberately sailed a ship from Hong Kong to the waters of Sorong City, Indonesia without the requirement for shipworthiness, namely SPB," he concluded.
