SURABAYA - The water pipe replanting project for the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) in Surabaya, East Java, experienced problems that caused asphalt on Jalan Pasar Kembang to be one meter high with a hole diameter of four meters.

One of the shop workers named Muhamad Jayun said the incident lasted about five minutes and had felt a shocking vibration.

"Suddenly there was a loud sound, about five minutes it happened, suddenly shook, I thought what was wrong, it turned out that the road was lifted," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 1.

Jayun hopes that there will be proper treatment soon because he is afraid that he will collapse and be affected by the surrounding shops.

"Yes, hopefully there will be handling from the government or related ones for fear of subsidence," he said.

Sementara itu, Manajer Proyek Perpipaan PDAM Surya Sembada Kota Surabaya Louis Andilun Gatu menjelaskan saat pemborasi dalam rangka proyek pemajamaan pipa air tersebut ada aliran air kecil yang keluar kemudian membuat sand masuk dan menghambat jalur pipa yang akan ditarik.

" Logically, when the pipe is pulled and pushed, but something is hindering, even though it has passed the lifted area, it automatically increases and there is an asphaltlifting," he said.

According to Louis, such incidents have never happened before and his party will try to make it on Tuesday night that the asphalt lifted has been closed.

"I have received orders from the President Director, tonight it must be closed for this lifted road," he said.

In addition, said Louis, the pipes to be installed will be discussed again with the expert team whether to continue to be pulled or change the track.

"This pipe has stopped to be withdrawn, it has been withdrawn 144 meters from 246, so it is less than 102 meters," he said.

Louis explained that the pipes installed to replace the old ones with the work process are expected to end in September 2023.

"With this incident, we will still try to complete it with the same target," he said.
