DKI Provincial Government Considers Jakarta To Be More Focused On Services Development Than Post-IKN Industry

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary Joko Agus Setyono said that the DKI Provincial Government has outlined the Jakarta development scheme in the future after the transfer of the Indonesian capital city to the archipelago, East Kalimantan in the 2023 Meeting of Governors and Mayors of ASEAN Capitals (MGMAC) and ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) forums.

After not having the status of the capital city, Jakarta will be designed as a business center. One aspect, said Joko, is that Jakarta is projected to focus more on developing the service sector.

This business sector, according to him, is more promising than industrial development. Given, the density of areas in Jakarta does not support the provision of industrial estate land

"We are probably going more towards the city of service, yes, because if we talk about industry issues, of course we need a fairly wide space. Then, don't let it have an environmental impact on people who will cause health problems and so on," said Joko at the Fairmont Hotel, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, August 1.

The meeting of governors and mayors throughout Southeast Asia, Joko continued, also held a discussion session, where delegates shared the development of cities that could potentially be adopted by other countries, including Jakarta.

What is clear is that the development of the regions that will be adapted in Jakarta includes sustainable development goals.

"The sustainable development of this sustainable development goal that we are currently building and trying to do. We properly regulate that the resources we have will be distributed to the periods where we are currently in," said Joko.

Joko continued, the Jakarta development plan, which is adapted from the results of the 2023 MGMAC & AMF forum, will be proposed to the central government to be included in the Draft Law (RUU) of Speciality Jakarta.

The MGMAC & AMF 2023 will be held on August 1 and 2 in Jakarta. A total of 21 delegates from governors and mayors of ASEAN countries attended this event. Also present were Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Secretary General of the Gathering of the Southeast Asian Nations (Sekjen ASEAN) Kao Kim Hour in this event.

After Heru Budi, Retno Marsudi, and Kao Kim Hour's remarks, the event was held with a plenary session entitled "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth" with speakers from the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs Suhajar Diantoro, Director of Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Berlianto Situngkir, and a number of ASEAN delegates.

Next, a panel discussion was held discussing 5 priority issues, ranging from inclusive economic growth, digital transformation, resilient cities and climate action, localization of sustainability B development goals, to sustainable mobility.

The MGMAC and AMF 2023 will continue on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. It is scheduled that all delegates will hold closed discussions and sign a joint declaration of the 2023 MGMAC and AMF. Next, the governors and mayors of ASEAN will inaugurate the ASEAN Park and tree planting in PTUL Park, South Jakarta.
