Police Reveal Illegal Cellular Phone Sales In Demak And Semarang, 173 Cellphones Confiscated

SEMARANG - Police revealed illegal cell phone sales that were not equipped with a label of Postal and Informatics Resources and Devices from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in the Demak and Semarang areas.

Director of the Special Criminal Investigation of the Central Java Police, Kombes Dwi Subagio, said that two owners of cell phone outlets in the Demak and Semarang areas were named suspects.

According to him, the disclosure began with the findings of dozens of illegal cell phones sold at a outlet owned by MI in Demak.

"From the results of the disclosure, it was developed, it was found that outlets were selling similar cell phones in Semarang," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 20.

The police also secured illegal cell phones of various types at IMB outlets.

As for the mode used, he said, the suspect bought a cell phone which is an item from the black market online.

The suspect bought the cell phone at a price of Rp. 300 thousand to Rp. 1.3 million per unit, he said, and resold at a price of Rp. 700 thousand to Rp. 1.5 million.

Of the two locations, 173 cell phones were secured with a selling value of IDR 259 million.

The two suspects, he continued, were known to have been selling the illegal cell phone for about six and five months, respectively.

The two suspects were charged with Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection and Law Number 36 of 1999 concerning Telecommunications.
