Thick Fog, SAM Air Plane Can't Be Evacuated

JAKARTA - The evacuation process of the Gran Caravan plane belonging to Semuwa Air (SAM) which crashed in the hilly area of Yalimo Regency, Papua, was decided to be postponed. The reason is that a thick fog enveloped the point where the plane crashed.

"The evacuation operation could not be carried out due to thick fog and cloudyness at the location where the plane crashed," said Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Kabasarnas) Marshal TNI Henri Alfiandi to VOI, Saturday, June 24.

The plan is for the evacuation process to resume on Sunday, June 25. The safety operation will start in the morning.

It is hoped that the weather conditions at the crash point will support the evacuation process. So, the news of the penumpang and crew can be known. "The evacuation process is planned to be carried out tomorrow," said Henri.

Meanwhile, the Gran Caravan plane belonging to Semuwa Air with flight number PK-SMW was reported to have lost contact on a flight from Elelim to Poik, Yalimo Regency, Papua Mountains, at around 11.00 WIT.

Based on the video footage received, the condition of the Gran Caravan plane has been destroyed into several parts. The plane crashed in a hilly area. In fact, black smoke still billowing into the air when the plane was discovered, on Friday, June 23.
