KPK Investigate 32 Corruption Cases In Papua Since 2003

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stated that it has never discriminated against any area in an effort to eradicate corruption, including Papua. There have been dozens of cases handled since 2003.

"Papua has 32 cases (handled since its establishment, ed). The data shows that so far the KPK has never provided special behavior for any region," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters, Friday, June 23.

While in other areas the number varies. On the island of Java, for example, there are 410 corruption cases that have been handled.

Meanwhile, in Sumatra there were 310 cases, Sulawesi 51 cases, Maluku 15 cases, Kalimantan 69 cases, Bali 8 cases, Nusa Tenggara Islands 17 cases. "The data shows that so far the KPK has never provided special behavior for any region," said Ali.

"It is hoped that in the future there will be no longer any narrative of the KPK distinguishing efforts to eradicate corruption," said Ali.

"KPK emphasizes that efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia have never looked at locations," he said.

For information, the KPK has investigated three corruption cases in Papua as long as Firli Bahuri leads and ensnares regional heads. They are Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng, Central Mamberamo Regent Ricky Ham Pagawak, and Papua Governor Lukas Enembe.

Lukas is suspected of accepting bribes from the Director of PT Tabi Bangun Papua, Rijatono Lakka. Meanwhile, gratification is allegedly given by other private parties in order to get projects in Papua.

Not only that, Lukas was charged with alleged money laundering. This step was taken after the KPK developed the bribery and gratification case that ensnared him.

Just like Lukas, Ricky is also entangled in allegations of bribery and gratification. Furthermore, investigators developed the case and found that there was a crime of money laundering (TPPU).
