KPK Suspects Section Of Guard And Care At Detention Center Involved In Extortion

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects that illegal levies (extortion) at the Class I Rutan in East Jakarta branch of the Merah Putih building involve employees in the guarding and maintenance department. The investigation is now ongoing after reports from the Supervisory Board are received.

"Of course the name, it is a bit focused actually that this happened in the detention center, involving guards and maintenance," said KPK Deputy Chair Nurul Ghufron to reporters, Wednesday, June 21.

Ghufron has not specified who these parties are. But they have been temporarily relieved of their duties to facilitate the ongoing legal process.

"We are investigating," he said.

Ghufron explained that external involvement would be sought. This is because the staff in the two parts do not only come from the internal anti-corruption commission.

"So whether (there are, red) outsiders and others as stated, this is a guard, of course most of them are employees or KPK personnel, but some are outside of that too," said Ghufron.

Previously, the KPK Supervisory Board found allegations of illegal levies at the KPK Detention Center. The value is fantastic to reach Rp4 billion and has been carried out since December 2021-March 2022.

Based on this finding, Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur said the investigation was currently underway. Anyone involved will be brushed indiscriminately.

"KPK will not indiscriminately take law enforcement efforts. Currently, the status is being investigated," Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur told reporters, Monday, January 19.
