Ukrainian Battlefield Again Swallows Victims Of Russian General: Veterans Of The Chechen Palagan, Hit By British Storm Shadow Missiles

JAKARTA - A top Russian military officer as well as a well-known war veteran was killed in a retaliatory attack by Ukraine, a Russian-backed official said, as a result of the impact of aid missiles sent by the West on Tuesday.

Vladimir Rogov, a Russian-placed official in the southern Zaporizhia region under Moscow's control, said Russia's 35th Joint Army Chief of Staff Major General Sergei Goryachev (52), was killed on the front lines of Zaporizhia on Monday, where Ukrainian troops had retook several areas.

There was no direct confirmation from the Russian Ministry of Defense regarding the news, which was first reported by "Voenkor Z," a Russian war correspondent and blogger.

"The army has lost one of its most intelligent and most effective military commanders, who combines the highest professionalism with personal courage. The deepest and most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased!", Rogov wrote on his Telegram channel, reported by Reuters on June 14.

The death of Major General Goryachev saw the number of Russian generals killed in the Ukraine war now reach 11, as well as the first Russian general to die this year, citing the Daily Mail.

The popular Russian war blog with 1.1 million followers, Anatoliy Shariy said Major General Goryachev was hit by a Storm Shadow missile that Britain supplied. He appears to have died along with other senior officers.

"Greetings from England and France," he wrote.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian expert Mikhail Zhirokhov said the general's death was a major blow to Russia.

"Usually, next to a general (there is) a colonel, lieutenant colonel, major, who carries out activities at the headquarters (who) dies. Therefore, the attack on the 35th Army command post before the big attack (Ukraine) is a very serious effort to achieve success," he explained.

Sergei Vladimirovich Goryachev was born on October 22, 1970 in Ozherelye, Oblast Badminton, the Soviet Union, quoted from the Ground Report.

Young Goryachev graduated from the Ryazan High Guard Cross-Air Command School in 1994. He continued his education at the Joint Weapons Academy of the Russian Federation Armed Forces and completed his 2008 study.

He started his military career as commander of the reconnaissance platoon, and then occupied various positions, including the assistant chief of surveillance, deputy commander of a reconnaissance company, commander of a reconnaissance company, to paratroopers battalion commander.

Major General Goryachev is a veteran of the Second Chechen War. Then from 2011 to 2013, he served as deputy commander of a separate motorized rifle brigade in the Western Military District.

In March 2013, Major General Goryachev was appointed head of the Russian troop operational group in Transistria. He then took on the role of commander of the 201 Russian Military Base in Tajikistan in November 2018.
