YOGYAKARTA - After two years of being required to wear a mask due to the COVID-19 pandemic, now people are allowed to take off or not wearing a mask in public places. However, masks are not enforced in all places. So which public transportation is mask-free?

The government has officially revoked the mandatory wearing of masks in all public spaces. The policy is contained in Circular Letter (SE) Number 1 of 2023 concerning Health Protocols during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Endemic Transition Period. The letter was signed by Suharyanto, Head of BNPB who is also the Head of the COVID-19 Task Force on Friday (9/6/2023).

"This Circular is effective from June 9, 2023, provided that there can be a tightening of restrictions again in the event of a significant increase in cases," the statement contained in the circular.

The Circular 'Free of Wearing Masks' was also followed by a policy from each public transportation manager. The following is a list of public transportation that have been allowed not to wear masks.

The Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) public transportation has issued a rules for wearing masks freely. MRT Jakarta passengers now do not have to wear masks when riding this fast mode of transportation.

This rule is contained in the SE of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency Number 26/SE/2023 concerning the Appeal for the Implementation of Health Protocols in Public Transportation Facilities and Infrastructure during the Transition Period Towards Endemic.

"According to the Circular of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Service No.26/SE/2023, you are allowed not to wear a mask when mobilizing using the Jakarta MRT," it was conveyed via the official MRT Jakarta Instagram account.

However, passengers who feel that their bodies are not healthy are still advised to wear masks for safety and comfort together. The letter also states that passengers continue to vaccinate against COVID-19, keep their distance, use hand sanitizers, and use the SATUSEHAT application.

The rules for wearing masks are also enforced in TransJakarta. For bus public transportation passengers in Jakarta, masks are no longer required. This policy was conveyed through Instagram social media @pt_transjakarta on Sunday (11/4).

Such is the review of public transportation that is mask-free. Although some public transportation does not require passengers to wear masks, the public is still advised to wear masks if the condition of the body is not healthy. Meanwhile, for long-distance KRL and train transportation, it is still mandatory to wear masks.
