PAN Still 'Glau' Determines Presidential Candidates To Be Promoted In The 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA - The National Mandate Party (PAN) has not officially announced who they will carry as presidential candidates for the contestation in 2024. Currently, internal parties are still discussing.

Chairman of the DPP National Mandate Party (PAN) Saleh Partaonan Daulay said his party listened to the aspirations of the cadres in determining the presidential candidate to be carried in the 2024 presidential election.

"It must be admitted, PAN has not decided to support one of the presidential candidates. It needs to be formulated and conveyed to PAN internally. The views and input of all cadres need to be heard," said Saleh.

"The goal is that all political machines owned by PAN can run in rhythm," he continued in a written statement quoted by Antara, Saturday, June 3. Thus, he continued, PAN will continue to build continued communication with the PDI-P which has been visited by the General Chairperson of PAN Zulhas and a number of PAN elites at the PDI-P DPP Office, Jakarta, Friday, June 2. regarding the support of the presidential candidate from the PDI-P Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential election. On that occasion, PDI-P offered Ganjar Pranowo to be supported together by the two parties. "Of course PAN really appreciates and respects the offer," said Saleh.

He further appreciated and said he was happy with the meeting and political friendship between PAN and the PDI-P. The meeting further strengthened that the PDI-P was a friend and friend of PAN, even more appropriate to be called "friends but intimate".

As regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Elections), pairs of presidential/vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of election participants who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the number of seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of nationally valid votes in the previous election of members of the DPR. Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. In addition, pairs of candidates can also be supported by political parties or coalition parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
