Hasto Kristiyanto is an Indonesian politician who currently serves as Secretary General of the PDIP. He was born on July 7, 1966 in Yogyakarta. He also spent most of his education in Yogyakarta.

His interest in politics began when he studied high school at SMA de Britto. At that time he often read books with political themes. His popularity grew even more when he continued his education at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta by taking Chemical Engineering. The reason is, at UGM Hasto actively joined several organizations including being the Chair of the Student Senate of the Faculty of Engineering UGM.

After completing his studies at UGM, Hasto worked in several companies. For example, he had served as Project Manager of the marketing department of PT Rekayasa Industri, besides that he had also been a Project Director of PT Prada Nusa Perkasa.

Then in 2002, Hasto joined the PDIP and sat as deputy secretary of Division II of Mass Media and the raising of the PDIP DPP. In the same party, Hasto decided to run for the DPR RI. It turned out that his candidacy with PDIP succeeded in bringing him to Senayan. Hasto became a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2004-2009 period for the electoral districts of Ngawi, Magetan, Ponorogo, Pacitan, and Trenggalek, East Java.

After his tenure in the Indonesian House of Representatives ended, Hasto, who failed in the 2009 election, finally helped raise PDIP. During the 2014 presidential election, Hasto was trusted by the PDIP chairman Megawati to be the spokesman for the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla pair.

In the same year, Hasto was appointed as Acting Secretary General of the PDI-P replacing Tjahjo Kumolo, who at that time was appointed Minister of Home Affairs. Then in 2015 Hasto received an inauguration as Secretary General of the PDI-P confirmed by Congress.
