East Java Governor Ensures Service For Victims Of Sexual Violence Cases Open 24 Hours

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa ensured that sexual case services, especially those that befell female and child victims, were open 24 hours.

"Anyone who feels that he has been abused immediately contacts the COP 129 hotline and WhatsApp [phone]. God willing, we are always ready 24 hours," he said in Surabaya as reported by ANTARA, Friday, May 19.

The service is an innovation of Services for Children and Women in Cases of Violence (Lapor Pak) initiated by the East Java Province Women's Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Service (DP3AK).

In addition to hotline and WhatsApp services, the former Minister of Social Affairs also invited the public to go directly to the Women and Children Protection Technical Implementation Unit (UPT PPA) DP3AK of East Java Province. The visit can be made on weekdays Monday-Fridays at 08.00-16.00 on Arjuno Street No.88, Surabaya.

"Never be afraid to report. The state has provided a legal umbrella through Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence or the TPKS Law. So all forms of sexual violence have been included in the realm of criminal acts and must be processed immediately with existing regulations, anyone involved in them," he said.

Khofifah expressed her concern and invited all elements to work hard to overcome the rise of various forms of violence that still occur in women and children.

Moreover, based on data from the Online Information System for the Protection of Women and Children (SIMFONI PPA), in 2022 there were 164 cases of sexual violence that occurred in women, or 20.2 percent of the 811 cases of violence against women reported in East Java.

Meanwhile, the number of sexual violence against children in 2022 reached 602 cases or 51.85 percent of the total 1,161 cases of violence that occurred in children.

Khofifah appreciated the downward trend in sexual violence against children in East Java in 2021, which previously reached 59 percent.

For this reason, he continued, the involvement of all parties from upstream, downstream, preventive and promotive. In principle, sexual violence must really be eradicated both against victims of children, women and men.
