PMI Salurkan Bantuan Untuk Ratusan Korban Banjir Cianjur

CIANJUR - Flash floods have damaged dozens of houses and cut off two bridges in Cianjur Regency, West Java. Not only that, hundreds of residents have also now fled.

The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Cianjur Regency, West Java, distributed aid in the form of food needs, blankets and clothes suitable for hundreds of flood victims in two sub-districts in the eastern region of the local district.

PMI Cianjur management Aris Yulianto in Cianjur, Monday, said that not only assistance in the form of materials, his party also alerted dozens of volunteers in two flood-hit sub-districts, namely Ciranjang and Bojongpicung sub-districts, to help residents evacuate goods from inside the house and help residents clean up the mud left over from the flood.

"In the early hours of Monday, about 15 volunteers were dispatched to the flood site to collect data, recorded in Ciranjang District about 93 families fled to the local village hall, 12 houses were damaged and 545 houses were flooded," he said.

Meanwhile, in Bojongpicung District, his party is still collecting data, it is estimated that more than 500 houses were flooded, no casualties or residents were displaced, because when the flood submerged the residents' villages, they had fled to a safe place.

To ease the burden on residents in the two sub-districts, his party distributed aid in the form of basic food packages, blankets, clothes that are suitable for use and additional food for infants and toddlers, as well as cleaning equipment such as hoes, shovels, buckets and dips.

"We see the condition of residents who have fled in good health, so we have just planned to establish a health post in Bojongpicung in collaboration with the local Puskesmas, for volunteers we will prepare to help residents around 20 people," he said.

Aris added that for assistance in Ciranjang District, his party immediately handed over to the Head of Ciranjang Village, while other assistance was handed over to the Bojongpicung District apparatus.

"We also dispatched three tanker trucks to help residents clean houses and public facilities covered in mud from the flood. PMI will continue to help the needs of flood victims before returning home," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 1.
