Hit By Floods, Two Broken Bridges In Ciranjang-Cianjur

Two main connecting bridges between sub-districts in Ciranjang, Cianjur, West Java, were broken and heavily damaged after being hit by flash floods on Monday, May 1, so road users were directed to alternative routes.

Secretary of BPBD Cianjur, Rudi Wibowo in Cianjur Monday, said the flash floods that hit Ciranjang and Bojongpicung sub-districts, due to the overflowing of the Ciranjang River, damaged a number of public facilities including permanent bridges and suspension bridges.

"For suspension bridges, it cannot be passed at all because the rope is broken in several parts, so the activities of residents in the two areas are hampered because residents have to look for alternative routes that are further away," he said.

Meanwhile, the permanent bridge between sub-districts in Ciranjang Village is 80 meters long, he said, was heavily damaged, especially in the runway and supporting poles of the bridge that was eroded by the flood, so that the flow of passing vehicles could only be traversed by one lane.

The damage to the two bridges has been reported to the Cianjur PUPR Service, so that repairs can be immediately carried out, including the permanent bridge connecting Ciranjang and Bojongpicung sub-districts in Ciranjang Village, which is currently only one route.

"We also noted that three school buildings and one place of worship were damaged due to heavy floods. The damage has been reported to the relevant agencies in the Cianjur Regency Government, so that quick action can be taken for repairs," he said.

The head of Ciranjang Village, Deden Efendi, said that his party hopes that the repair of permanent bridges and suspension bridges damaged by flooding can be carried out immediately because both are the closest access to residents to the sub-district center and Ciranjang Market.

"There are many alternative routes, but the distance is mainly for residents from Bojongpicung to Ciranjang to have to turn to the Bandung-Cianjur national road, especially residents who want to sell their produce to Ciranjang Market, if they pass by the bridge, only a few minutes have arrived," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 1.
