A House Collapsed In Trenggalek Due To The Tuban Earthquake

SURABAYA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 rocked Tuban, East Java, Friday afternoon, April 14, and caused a house to collapse in the Trenggalek Regency area.

"There were no casualties. The earthquake in Tuban only caused a house to collapse in Trenggalek Regency," said Head of East Java BPBD (Kalaksa) Gatot Soebroto in his statement in Surabaya, Saturday.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) informed that the earthquake that occurred in Tuban was due to subduction activity.

The earthquake occurred at 16.55 WIB at a position 70 kilometers northwest of Tuban at a depth of 632 kilometers.

Earthquake tremors were felt by people in various districts/cities in the East Java region, including the cities of Surabaya, Bangkalan Regency, Sidoarjo, Malang, to Pacitan and Trenggalek.

Data collection conducted by the East Java BPBD confirmed that there were no injuries or deaths, except for a house unit that collapsed in the Trenggalek Regency area.

"Although the strength is 6.6 magnitudes, maybe because the epicenter was quite far away and so deep that it did not cause any injuries or deaths. Other damage due to the earthquake was also not available," said Head of BPBD Gatot Soebroto as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, April 15.

According to data collection from the East Java BPBD, Gatot explained, houses in Trenggalek, which are about 200 kilometers or more from the epicenter in Tuban, could collapse because the previous condition had been damaged, which was quite severe.

"Actually, this house has been abandoned for a long time in a damaged condition which is quite severe. The tremors of the earthquake eventually accelerated the house to collapse," he concluded.
