Karomani's Wife Refuses To Give Testimony To Her Husband At The Unila Chancellor's Bribery Case Session

Enung Juhartini, refused to testify for her husband, the defendant Karomani, during a trial in the bribery case of New Student Admissions (PMB) at the University of Lampung (Unila) at the Tanjungkarang District Court (PN), in Bandar Lampung, Tuesday, March 28.

"Are you willing to testify at the trial against the defendant Karomani?" asked the Chief Judge of the Tanjungkarang District Court Lingga Setiawan to Enung Juhartini during the trial.

Lingga said in accordance with Article 168 of the Criminal Procedure Code that the family of the accused has the right to resign from the obligation to provide testimony as witnesses.

"However, the person concerned still has to testify against the other two defendants, namely Heryandi and M Basri," said Lingga.

Enung Juhartini in the trial stated that he refused to testify for Karomani because he had submitted a letter of resignation as a witness.

"In accordance with the letter I once said, I refuse to testify to be a witness to my husband," he said.

On the reply of Karomani's wife, the panel of judges granted Enung Juhartini's request not to testify against the defendant Karomani.

At the follow-up trial of the 2022 PMB Unila bribery case on three defendants Karomani, Heryandi, and M Basri, the Public Prosecutor of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) presented eight witnesses.

As for the witnesses, namely Mahfud Santoso as the former Chairman of the Central Lampung Regency Education Council, M Anton Wibowo as the Head of Service and Health of the Central Lampung District Health Office.

Furthermore, Hepi Hasasi as a member of the Lampung Regional Police, Aryanto Munawar as Secretary of the Lampung PWNU, Enung Juhartini as the wife of the defendant Karomani, Adi Triwibowo as the TU staff and aide to the defendants Karomani, Budi Sutomo, and Mualimin.

Karomani, former Chancellor of Unila along with two other defendants, namely former Deputy Chancellor I for Academic Affairs Unila Prof. Heryandi and former Senate Chair of Unila Muhammad Basri are also defendants in the alleged 2022 PMB Unila bribery case.

In this case, the KPK has named four suspects consisting of three people as bribe recipients, namely Karomani, Heryandi, and Muhammad Basri.

Meanwhile, the suspect who gave the bribe was the private party, Andi Desfiandi, who had been sentenced by the panel of judges.
