KUPANG - A resident of Kotabes Village, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Yulius Taebenu (45) was evacuated dead after falling into a well. It is suspected that Yulius fell into a well because he was drunk.

The Kupang Class A Search and Rescue Office SAR team evacuated Yulius Taebenu (45), a resident of Kotabes Village, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province who fell into a well with a depth of 30 meters.

Head of the Kupang Search and Rescue Office I Putu Sudayana told reporters in Kupang, Saturday, that the victim reportedly fell into a well with a depth of 30 meters on Friday, March 24 at 23.00 WITA.

He said that after receiving the report, Basarnas immediately deployed eight SAR members to the scene to carry out rescue operations on Yulius Taebenu, a resident of RT4/RW 02, Amarasi District, who fell into a well belonging to Onisimus Bien.

At 23.15 WITA, the Kupang SAR Office received information from the Head of Kotabes Village that one of its residents fell into a well with a depth of up to 30 meters and asked for evacuation assistance.

According to him, SAR operations supported by potential SAR from the Amarasi Police, Kupang Police, Kotabes Village Head and the community to evacuate victims from the well were quite difficult, because the residents' water wells were very deep and the victims were at the bottom of the well.

"The victim was in the bottom of a well with a depth of about five meters, so the SAR team had to dive to the bottom of the well to lift the victim, so the evacuation process lasted a long time," said I Putu Sudayana.

He explained that the evacuation process for Yulius Taebenu was successfully carried out by the SAR team on Saturday at 05.00 WITA in the condition that the victim had died.

Meanwhile, Kupang Police Chief AKBP FX Irwan Arianto said victim Yulius Taebeu fell into a well, allegedly the victim was still under the influence of alcohol.

Based on statements from several witnesses that the victim was being influenced by alcohol at that time, because before the incident the victim and a number of residents consumed sopi-type liquor, the victim was drunk after sipping several glasses of liquor.

"A few hours later the victim said goodbye to the back of the house to urinate and at that time the victim did not fall into the well again," said Police Chief AKBP FX Irwan Arianto.
