About Jokowi, Perppu, And What Kind Of Leadership Is This

JAKARTA - KPK Deputy Saut Situmorang again expressed his hopes for President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to issue a Perppu. For Saut, canceling the new KPK Law is the key to strengthening corruption eradication. Or, just value what kind of leadership Jokowi is currently running.

For Saut, currently Jokowi is the most appropriate hope to cancel Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning Amendments to the KPK Law. There is no one else and there is no reason whatsoever to delay the issuance of the Perppu.

"If the owner of the Perppu authority does not open his heart on this law, by reason of the judicial review or legislative review process first, then we will describe it ourselves, what kind of leadership is this country being led," said Saut, Monday, November 18.

Saut assessed that the KPK Law revised by the DPR was far from the spirit of strengthening efforts to eradicate corruption. So, the Perppu related to the KPK Law could be Jokowi's way of proving his focus on eradicating corruption, as he always said.

The curbing of efforts to eradicate corruption through the new KPK Law, according to Saut, could be the beginning of rampant corruption, which also means the beginning of the destruction of the Indonesian nation. So, now he leaves the sword to eradicate corruption to Jokowi.

Not only Saut. According to him, the issuance of the Perppu on the new KPK Law is the hope of many people who still have an anti-corruption spirit. "The national leadership must hold the sword to eradicate corruption by themselves," said Saut.

"The KPK, civil society, experts or professors at various universities, community leaders, national figures, are still waiting and hoping that the KPK Perppu will be issued soon," he added.

Disappointment in Jokowi

Hopes for Jokowi have been accompanied by disappointment. This disappointment has been repeatedly expressed by many activists. Bivitri Susanti, one of them.

Some time ago, after meeting with the KPK leadership with other anti-corruption activists, Bivitri said there were many doubts within Jokowi about issuing a Perppu.

"If Pak Jokowi wants to (issue a Perppu) it should have come out. If I look at it, Pak Jokowi is still hesitant in making decisions, ”said Bivitri at the KPK's Red and White House, Kuningan Persada, Friday, November 15.

Apart from the issue of disappointment, at that time Bivitri said there was a possibility that anti-corruption activists would propose a Judicial Review (JR) as had been done by a joint student group some time ago.

However, it is not certain when the submission was made and do not want to elaborate on the matter of the judicial review application. "Don't know (when the submission is). It was the (determined) legal team. But it will definitely be submitted, "he concluded.
