Macron More Desperate As 'Fake Hero' Of Climate Change, People Demonstrate In Paris

JAKARTA - A group of environmental activists in France rallied to demand the government's commitment to the climate change agenda. Protesters refer to the Paris Agreement. President Emmanuel Macron is increasingly pressured by the image of climate change "false heroes".

Environmental activists unfurled large posters, mostly criticizing Macron, on Friday, December 11. The action was carried out in front of the Eiffel Tower.

The poster shows Macron turning his back on a burning planet. The picture is a message that they see Macron does not care about Earth's safety.

"The Paris Agreement is on fire, Macron looks away," read the caption below the picture placed in an open field overlooking the Eiffel Tower.

Question Macron

Recently, Macron's commitment to fighting climate change has been questioned by various groups. To the extent, France's highest court gave Macron a deadline to ensure he fulfilled his commitment, namely to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in France in the next three months.

"Emmanuel Macron is positioning himself as a climate champion and great protector of the Paris Agreement, but he is not," said Jean-Francois Julliard, head of the France branch of Greenpeace, one of the groups organizing the protests.

Previously, the 2015 Paris Agreement was signed by nearly 200 countries. The Paris Agreement is a turning point for countries in the world against global warming.

However, the United States later walked out of the deal. Like losing a leader, the agreement that previously pushed for carbon emission reduction has yet to show results.
