Jokowi: I Hear That There Are Still Issues Of Freedom Of Worship In Several Places

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that there are still problems related to human rights (HAM). One of them is related to freedom of worship in several areas.

"I heard that there is still a problem with freedom of worship in some places," said Jokowi when he opened an online event to commemorate World Human Rights Day 2020 which was broadcast on YouTube, Thursday, December 10.

Although he did not specify the place, he ordered his ranks to resolve this issue. Of course the completion is well.

"For that I ask that the central and regional government officials be active and responsive to resolve this problem peacefully and wisely," he added.

Previously, Jokowi also asked all parties to play a role in efforts to equalize human rights justice for all people in Indonesia, from civil rights, political rights, economic rights to socio-cultural rights.

Moreover, currently the government's commitment to upholding human rights has been stated in the 2020-2025 National Human Rights Action Plan.

Even though Indonesia is facing a serious problem, namely the COVID-19 pandemic, this should not be an excuse for the government to reduce efforts to fulfill people's human rights.

Furthermore, Jokowi said that the government continued to ensure that the community did not experience such a severe impact due to the pandemic. Fulfillment of health facilities to providing assistance is something that continues to be pursued so that community rights can be fulfilled.

"We continue to work hard to prevent the spread of the virus, treat the sick, prevent death, and provide economic assistance to poor people and MSMEs. We must keep the pandemic from worsening the fulfillment of people's human rights," he said.

On the same occasion, Jokowi also touched on infrastructure development. He said, this effort is one way for the government to fulfill people's human rights.

So that in the future, he hopes that equitable infrastructure development in each region can bring equality in the regions.

"We must also dedicate infrastructure development as infrastructure for the fulfillment of human rights by ensuring affordability of mobility rights, health rights, food rights and equal basic needs including one price fuel," he said.
