Mexico Is The Fourth Country With More Than 100 Thousand COVID-19 Deaths

JAKARTA - Mexico is the fourth country in the world to confirm that it has surpassed 100,000 deaths due to COVID-19. The country with the most deaths recorded was the United States (US), Brazil in second place, and India in third.

Launching CNA, Friday, November 20, Mexico's Director of Epidemiology, Jose Luis Alomia Zegarra, revealed that Mexico has now recorded 100,104 deaths due to the virus from Wuhan. This number was obtained in line with the number of COVID-19 infections in Mexico which had reached one million cases.

Jose added that the lack of assertiveness in the government and the number of hospitals that are short of funds has made handling COVID-19 so bad in Mexico. In fact, the Mexican government calls the confirmed death data only a fraction of the actual death toll. This is because the number of COVID-19 tests was not carried out massively.

The poor handling of COVID-19 is exacerbated by the reluctance of the government to spend additional funds for handling COVID-19 and providing assistance to its citizens during the pandemic. As a result, in the early days of the pandemic, many Mexicans preferred to leave work rather than stay at home following government advice.

Meanwhile, the average age of those who died was 64 years. Meanwhile, the city that is the largest contributor to death is the capital, Mexico City, an area that is home to 20 million Mexicans.

"In Mexico, the curve has never been flat. And today there is no rapid reduction in cases that can be seen," Lia Limon Garcia, a former opposition congressman who appears furious with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's government.
