Makassar City Government Holds Swab Test For 'Pete-Pete' Angkot Drivers

MAKASSAR - The Makassar City Government will hold a swab test for angkot drivers known as pete-pete in Makassar. This swab test is to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Head of the Makassar City Health Office, Agus Jaya Said, said that this activity had been coordinated with the Makassar City Transportation Agency and other related parties to prepare data regarding public transportation drivers who went in and out of Mallengkeri Terminal and other terminals in Makassar.

"So now we are with the Department of Transportation, related to us wanting to swab at the pete-pete driver, so later we will direct it to the terminal," said Head of Makassar City Health Office, Agus Jaya Said, contacted by VOI, Saturday, November 14.

The swab test for pete-pete drivers was conducted because the drivers had the most frequent contact with passengers.

"Because we haven't targeted it yet, we've only been active with the general public," he said.

"Anyway, how many pete-pete drivers are willing, we know how this pete-pete driver is (about the results of the COVID-19 test)," continued Agus.

In addition, the Makassar City Government will also distribute masks to various public facilities as an effort to discipline health protocols in the community.

"We also distribute masks at Lego-lego and at several points in the city of Makassar including the terminal, Losari Beach pavilion, and a number of markets," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Makassar City Transportation Agency, Mario Said, said that he had made preparations by coordinating with Organda, a public transport driver.

"If we have coordinated with the organda, we just have to wait when it will be implemented. We are only helping the Health Office if the technicality is at the Health Office," he said.
