Alcoholic Drink Bill Discussed By DPR, Mayor Of Solo: Will Affect Tourism

JAKARTA - The Mayor of Solo, FX Hadi Rudyatmo, stated that the prohibition on alcoholic beverages will affect the tourism sector in Solo because this commodity is one of the needs of tourists.

"If there is already a law (law), we will make a first, at this time there is still a tug of war between the prohibition and regulation," he said when responding to the Bill on the Prohibition of Alcoholic Drinks in Solo, Central Java, as reported by Antara, Friday, November 13.

He said that if the bill regulates, the regional government issued by the Surakarta City Government will also regulate it.

"If it is regulated, it will be finished. If it is prohibited, it is 'no', maybe we want to go beyond the existing law. If it regulates, we cannot exceed the weight of the law itself. If it regulates it then we will also regulate it," he said.

However, if the bill states it is prohibited, he estimates that the tourism sector will be affected.

"If it is prohibited, it is very influential. Those who want to visit hotels, tourists need alcohol which can be bought and sold, so this (prohibition) will affect tourist visits," he said.

Regarding this, the Chairman of the Surakarta DPRD, Budi Prasetyo, said that the regional regulation on alcoholic beverages is still the pros and cons.

According to him, the discussion will continue while waiting for the bill to be passed.

Meanwhile, the Legislative Body (Baleg) of the House of Representatives (DPR) is currently working on a draft Law (RUU) on the Prohibition of Alcoholic Drinks.
