JAKARTA - DKI Governor Anies Baswedan said that the drainage system in Jakarta on average can only accommodate 100 millimeters of rainfall per day.

If the rainfall is above 100 millimeters per day, said Anies, DKI will definitely experience flooding. He conveyed this in a preparedness ceremony for the rainy season in Jakarta.

"If the rainfall is above 100 millimeters, so that inevitably the water will be inundated, there will be floods. Like January, we experienced rainfall 3.7 times the capacity we have," said Anies at JICT II Pier, North Jakarta, Wednesday, November 4.

Anies said, the potential for flooding at the end of this year to early 2021 was even greater due to the impact of the La Nina phenomenon. "This phenomenon causes rainfall to be much more intensive," he said.

Therefore, Anies asked all levels of the DKI Provincial Government and stakeholders related to flood management to uphold three principles, namely alertness, responsiveness, and shipyard.

The principle of alertness, said Anies, means preparing the potential that is owned to be able to face the rainy season which causes flooding. Then, the principle of responsiveness is monitoring weather developments with all projections of rain.

"Responsive, this must be our daily life in the weeks ahead. We really ensure that we have SOPs that are synergistic between all levels, so that we can work in the field as well as possible," explained Anies.

Third, the principle of galang, namely the ability of all elements of officers to gather all their strength to work together to face floods.

"What is the responsibility of other elements is a responsibility for us. We all must have the willingness to share merits with other elements in order to jointly cope when a flood occurs," he said.
