The Cisadane River Is Filled With Waste, Rahayu Saraswati Talks About Cleaning And The Potential Of Ecotourism

JAKARTA - South Tangerang deputy mayor candidate number 1, Rahayu Saraswati, said that the Cisadane River has the potential to be used as an ecotourism area. However, this potential cannot be developed because of the flow of waste from a tissue factory called the Director of the Cisadane River Garbage Bank (Banksasuci) Ade Yunus has been going on for a long time but has never received attention.

"I walked along Cisadane to see the potential for eco-tourism and water transportation, but it was sad to see the turquoise green waste stream entering the river without going through the filtering and processing process," Rahayu said in a written statement to reporters after visiting the Cisadane River area, November 3.

During a visit, Saras also saw a PDAM water pipe which turned out to be taking water from this polluted river and had been happening since the 1930s.

"The Cisadane River is polluted by hazardous waste but has become a source of PDAM water," he said.

As a further step, Saras invites residents along the riverbanks to no longer throw garbage carelessly. Moreover, this river is a source of drinking water for the community.

In addition, if the river is cleaned, the chairman of the Gerindra DPP assesses that there are many potentials that can be utilized. Apart from being an ecotourism area, the Cisadane river can be used as an alternative transportation route.

Saraswati also highlighted the pile of garbage at Cipeucang TPA, Tangsel. He was dumbfounded as he entered the landfill area which had already exceeded the limit. In addition, he also witnessed the silting of the river due to the breaking of the walls of the place recently.

He also heard that the incident of the broken wall and spilled rubbish had not only happened once but many times. However, based on Ade Yunus' report, there was no follow up from the local government.

In fact, if it rains, Ade said the water will seep into the garbage and then flow into the river, so that the area around Tangerang Selatan and Tangerang Kota will smell a pungent odor.

Hearing the statement, Saras then said that the environmental pollution around the Cisadane River must be stopped immediately with a program.

"We must save the Cisadane River and organize it through a serious program. Likewise with the condition of the Cipeucang TPA. It's time for this environmental pollution to end," he concluded.
