JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has answered the issue of eliminating maternity leave and unilateral termination of work relations (PHK) in the newly passed Job Creation Law. According to Jokowi, maternity leave still exists and there are no unilateral layoffs.

"I emphasize this is not true. The right to leave remains and is guaranteed. The truth is that companies cannot unilaterally lay off their employees, "Jokowi said in a statement broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat Youtube, Friday, October 9.

Thus, he asked the public not to be consumed by issues that were not fundamental. This issue has become one of the triggers for demonstrations that have ended in chaos in a number of regions.

"The demonstration against the Job Creation Law was basically motivated by disinformation regarding the substance of this law and hoaxes on social media," said Jokowi.

Then, regarding the information on the elimination of the provincial minimum wage (UMP), city district minimum wages (UMK), and provincial sectoral minimum wages (UMSP) is also incorrect. "The fact is that the UMR still exists," he continued.

Furthermore, regarding the removal of the environmental impact analysis permit (AMDAL). According to Jokowi, the AMDAL Job Creation Law is not deleted.

"AMDAL still exists, for large industries a rigorous AMDAL study is required, but for MSMEs it emphasizes mentoring and supervision," said Jokowi.

Jokowi previously asked all parties who disagreed with the Job Creation Law to file a judicial review suit to the Constitutional Court (MK). Not mobilizing the masses to take to the streets.

According to Jokowi, the judicial review step is a good step. Moreover, it is regulated in state administration.
