JAKARTA - The veteran punk rock unit from Bekasi, Random, has again enlivened the Indonesian music industry with a very special gift ahead of the commemoration of Indonesia's 78th Independence Day in the form of the latest single entitled The Spirit of Independence.
The launch of a single plus video clip of Semangat Merdeka is proof of Random's consistency which is now driven by Asez (guitar/vocals), Ichank Roxx, (guitar), Epoy (bass), and Goya (drums) on the Punk Indonesia music scene, after being vacuumed in 2006 and then rising again at the end of 2022.
"This work was created after Random returned with complete personnel in 2023 and decided to start working again," saidarez as quoted by Antara, Wednesday.
Deliberately released on this year's commemoration of Indonesian Independence Day, singles and video clips of the Spirit of Merdekadi are expected to be an injection of enthusiasm for the hopes and ideals that every human being wants to achieve.
"The lyrics contain an invitation never to be discouraged towards the future by uniting and together without exception, along with the independence that everyone currently has," added guitarist Ichank.
He added that this work also reflects Random's attitude of caring about social life, without any restrictions, quotation, or other frills.
Meanwhile, Epoy's bass rips said positive lyrics in the single "Free spirit" were wrapped in different arrangements from the previous works of Random. The use of elements of Ska, reggae, and even metal, is part of the fresh exploration of the personnel.
"The chosen genres are indeed different from the previous genres. From this single, listeners will find the composition of Random's fast music by adding elements of Ska, reggae, and a little metal touch with varying music tempo and strong lyrics," explained Epoy.
In working on a single, the band that is proud of Bekasi also collaborated with the guitarist of the punk pop band No Gigs Still Party (NGSP), Gilang, who has been involved in many things since Random's return to the music industry.
Not only that, Gilang NGSP was also asked to be the director of the video clip "Semanga Merdeka" which carries the theme of brotherhood in independence and takes the shooting location in Kahuripan Skatepark, Parung.
Established in 1997, Random has released two full albums, each titled Save D' Friendship (2001) and Step Ahead (2006). They are also involved in the construction of a number of compilation albums, including Punk Clinic (2000), Jalan Bersama (2001), Semi People (2006), and One Soul (2010).
Now, Random carries the new logo "RNDOM97" representing the rise of Random after nearly 16 years of vacuum releasing his work.
Random's Free Spirit Single (Rndom97) released under the NewHope Records label can now be heard on various digital music player platforms starting August 17, 2023. Meanwhile, the video clip for this song will also be available on the YouTube video sharing platform Rendom97 on the same day.
