Ellie Goulding Talks About Higher Than Heaven, Her Most Unpersonal Album

JAKARTA - Ellie Goulding says she views her upcoming album, Higher Than Heaven, as her "most impersonal" release yet.

The singer explained in an interview with Rolling Stone that she wanted her fifth album to be "very different" from the previous one, Brightest Blue, which was released three years ago.

“In the best way this record is drawn from personal experience, and it was such a relief and refreshing not to sit in the studio going through all the things that happened to me and influenced me,” says Ellie.

"Because I feel things really deeply. I always have. It's the most impersonal album, but I think it's the best album because I just explored other things about myself. I really enjoyed writing, really enjoy being a singer.”

Meanwhile, she says the song in her discography that will always relate to her personal life is her 2012 hit, Anything Can Happen.

“There is a strong feeling every time I perform it. When I listened back, I had no idea how I made the song. I can't tell you what I feel, what I'm going through," she said.

"So there are some songs in retrospect that I listen to now that I admired the person I was when I wrote them because I thought I could never write a song like that again. And I think that defines me the best. I don't know why. It's just happened."

Higher Than Heaven presents the single Let It Die, Easy Lover, and Ellie's collaboration single with Alok and Sigala, All By Myself. The album will be released on April 7th.
