For Ed Sheeran, Music Criticism Is Not Important

JAKARTA - Ed Sheeran said he did not see the importance of music criticism.

According to Rolling Stone, Sheeran refers to the era of streaming and how music is now more accessible to be previously traded.

The singer and songwriter suggested that criticism is no longer needed to guide listeners or help them engage.

"Why do you need to read reviews? Listen to that. It's freely available! he told the Rolling Stones. "Decide your own mind. I'll never read the album review and say, 'I'm not going to listen to it now.'"

Sheeran's comments were greeted with mixed reactions in cyberspace.

One person wrote: "Ok unless music critics are not only there to decide what to listen to? A deeper look at music through deeper critical lenses, both positive and negative, is the overall music celebration if any."

While others said: 80 percent of the time I agreed. But the best reviewer also helped me learn how to interpret music in new ways. They also helped me learn about the history of music. There's a lot about music that goes beyond the sound in my ears (imho).

Elsewhere, some people say they agree with Sheeran. "He's right," wrote one person, while others said: "He's a bit real for that not to lie."

Sheeran's comments about the music criticism were shared by Rolling Stone in additional material removed from a March edition interview with the star.
