Indian Legendary Actor Rishi Kapoor Dies

JAKARTA - The day after the death of Irrfan Khan, the Indian entertainment industry is again in mourning. Rishi Kapoor died on Thursday, April 30 after undergoing treatment for cancer and other respiratory problems in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Reporting from Variety, his younger brother Randhir told Indian media on Wednesday. Initially, Kapoor was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and underwent treatment in the United States. Then he returned to India and is still undergoing treatment. In between taking care of his health, Kapoor took on several minor roles in the film.

"We ask fans and family colleagues to respect the ongoing law," wrote the family representative as the world is currently undergoing a difficult situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rishi Kapoor became a child actor in the 1970s through his father's film project Mera Naam Joker. Kapoor made his directorial debut in 1999 with Aa Ab Laut Chalen.

Referred to as a legendary actor, Rishi Kapoor became a box office actor with roles in romantic comedies such as Prem Rog, Chandni, and Heena. Even though the actor who was born on September 4 is experiencing health problems, he had announced he would join the remake of the film The Intern with Deepika Padukone. His last project is the film The Body which is a remake of Oriol Paulo (2012).

This year, his latest film, Sharmaji Namkeen, enters the shooting process which is being halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rishi Kapoor died at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on April 29 leaving his wife, Neetu Singh and a son and daughter.

His colleagues who just received this news immediately wrote messages of condolences through their social media accounts. Randeep Hooda, the Indian actor who made Rishi Kapoor his role model wrote; “A person can be a good actor and be overwhelmed but the passion for life is a secret that few know and carry to the end. Always supports me and really means a lot because it comes from someone who doesn't mince words. Rest in peace #RishiKapoor "

Simi Garewal, who co-starred with Kapoor in the film Siddharta and Karz, also expressed his sadness through his tweets. “#RishiKapoor, Chintu's departed favorite… dear friend… my co-star… my playmate. People who like to make me laugh until I cry! Now there are only crying… no saying goodbye. There is no funeral. There is no consolation. It's quiet. Emptiness. Sadness."
